General abdominal surgery

General abdominal surgery

General surgery is, despite its name, a surgical speciality focusing on abdominal organs, e.g., intestines including oesophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, often including the thyroid gland (depending on the availability of head and neck surgery specialists). General surgery also deals with diseases involving the skin, breast and soft tissue, and includes surgery for intestinal hernias.

These procedures can be both open and minimally invasive through small incisions or laparoscopic techniques.
